WorkTango Alternative: Evergreen vs WorkTango

For HR teams that want surveys and recognition in one place and are weighing WorkTango against something smaller. WorkTango is a portal-based platform on an annual contract; Evergreen is recognition in the channel with a tree at the end.

What WorkTango is

WorkTango is an employee experience platform with two halves that can be bought separately or together: surveys and insights, and recognition and rewards. The recognition half is a public social feed with values-based recognition, points, service awards and milestones, nominations, incentives with claim caps and a marketplace of 10 million+ rewards in 85 countries with no markup, paid only when employees redeem. The surveys half covers engagement and lifecycle surveys, dashboards, action planning and anonymous conversations. Fifty-seven HRIS and HCM integrations are listed, from Workday to Personio, and there are mobile apps and kiosk mode for offline staff.

Pricing is quoted. The minimum contract is 12 months, costs scale with employee count, and the site describes launching in four to six weeks.

Who it suits

An HR team that already runs an engagement survey and wants to see recognition in the same data set, in a company large enough to justify an annual contract and an implementation. The offline and international features, multi-currency budgets, localised rewards and the charity-only option for regulated industries point at a global or deskless workforce. For that buyer, the portal model is right: not everybody has Slack.

How the two products approach recognition

Evergreen is only the recognition half, and it lives where the team already is. A colleague gives a seed in Slack or Microsoft Teams with a message and optional value tags, and it is posted to a public channel. Every three seeds a person receives are planted as one real tree through a reforestation partner. The company gets a reporting dashboard with values analytics, a monthly team recap and a public impact page, and nothing else.

The difference in how chat is used matters more than the feature lists. In WorkTango the Slack integration shows the activity feed in a channel and the Teams integration is a tab, while recognition and redemption happen in the portal or app. In Evergreen the channel post is the recognition, and the web is only for reporting. For a desk-based team that is the whole difference in adoption.

Evergreen has no survey. If engagement data matters to you, you will run a survey tool alongside it, and the recognition guide suggests how to read the two together without integrating them.

Price is $3.99 per active user per month, billed monthly for people who interacted that month, no contract, a 14-day trial and no card. There is no implementation; installing the app and choosing a channel is the project.

What switching involves

If you leave WorkTango, keep your survey tool or find another before the contract ends; Evergreen will not fill that gap. Set a redemption deadline for points, export recognition reporting, map your values to Evergreen tags, and install Evergreen in the channels your team already reads. Weekly reminders and the monthly recap replace the programme calendar.

Where WorkTango is strong

  • Surveys and recognition in one platform, so engagement data and recognition data can be read together.

  • A rewards marketplace of 10 million+ options in 85 countries with no markup, paid only as employees redeem, and free shipping and fulfilment.

  • Values-based recognition on a public social feed, with service awards, nominations, incentives with claim caps and a charity-only option for regulated industries.

  • Fifty-seven HRIS and HCM integrations including Workday, BambooHR, ADP, UKG, SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle and Personio, plus SSO.

  • Mobile apps, shared kiosks, multi-currency budgets and localised rewards for offline and international workforces.

Where it falls short

  • Pricing is quoted, the minimum contract is 12 months and the site describes a four- to six-week implementation.

  • The Slack integration shows the WorkTango activity feed in a channel and the Teams integration is a tab; the core experience is the WorkTango portal and app.

  • Rewards spend is on top of the platform fee and gift cards and merchandise are a taxable benefit.

  • A platform that spans surveys, recognition, incentives and analytics needs an owner in HR.

How Evergreen differs

No contract

Evergreen is $3.99 per active user per month, billed monthly, cancel any time, with a 14-day trial and no card.

Trees instead of a marketplace

Every three seeds a person receives are planted as one real tree. There is no rewards budget, no fulfilment and no tax.

The channel is the feed

Seeds are given in Slack or Microsoft Teams and posted to a public channel with the message and value tags, rather than to a portal the chat app links to.

Recognition without surveys

Evergreen has value tags, tag analytics, a monthly team recap and a public impact page. It has no survey module and does not try to be an engagement platform.

Verdict

If your HR team runs an engagement survey and wants recognition data beside it, WorkTango is designed for that and the no-markup, pay-on-redemption model is fair. If you want recognition to run in Slack or Teams from this week, with no annual contract, no rewards budget and a planted tree as the only reward, Evergreen is the lighter answer and does not pretend to replace your survey.

Questions people ask

Does WorkTango publish its pricing?

No. The WorkTango pricing page lists three tiers with a Request Pricing button each, says the minimum contract is 12 months and that costs depend on employee count. Evergreen publishes $3.99 per active user per month with no contract.

Can WorkTango recognition be given inside Slack?

The WorkTango integrations page describes the Slack integration as viewing the activity feed in a designated channel, and the Teams integration as a tab for sending recognition and viewing the feed. In Evergreen the seed is given in Slack or Teams and the channel post is the recognition.

Is Evergreen a WorkTango alternative for employee surveys?

No. Evergreen does not run surveys. It replaces the recognition half of WorkTango for teams in Slack or Microsoft Teams, and many companies keep a separate survey tool alongside it.
