What Awardco is

Awardco is a points-based recognition platform whose signature is its Amazon Business partnership. Points earned through spot recognition, nominations, service awards and automated milestones are spent on millions of Amazon items in 180+ locations, with no markup and free shipping according to the site, or on gift cards, charity donations, travel, a company swag store or an A-Pay card. The platform includes budget management, funding management, a tax buffer, points expiration, advanced reporting, a filterable social feed and an AI layer, and integrates with a long list of HRIS systems from Workday to Gusto. There are Slack and Teams apps for recognising and awarding points in channels.

Pricing is by plan and quoted. Standard covers two programme types, Scale four, Enterprise everything, and additional programme types cost more. The only figure published is a small-business package starting at $3,000 on an annual subscription.

Who it suits

A company that wants its recognition programme to carry purchasing power and wants a single platform to run spot recognition, anniversaries, nominations and incentives together. The Amazon catalogue answers the question employees always ask about points, which is whether there is anything worth buying. The HRIS list and SSO answer the IT team. If you are buying for a few hundred people or more on an annual budget, the quoted model is normal.

How the two products approach recognition

Evergreen removes the purchasing power and keeps the recognition. A colleague gives a seed in Slack or Microsoft Teams with a message and optional value tags, posted to a public channel. Every three seeds a person receives are planted as one real tree through a reforestation partner. There is nothing to redeem, so there are no points to expire and no budget to fund, and nobody calculating a tax buffer or curating a catalogue. The company gets a reporting dashboard with values analytics, a monthly team recap and a public impact page.

The honest trade-off is that a tree is the same size for everyone. Awardco can give one person 5,000 points for a heroic quarter and another 50 for a tidy pull request. Evergreen gives a seed, and the message carries the weight. The recognition messages pages exist because, without a catalogue, the writing is what matters.

Price is the other difference. Evergreen is $3.99 per active user per month, billed only for people who interacted that month, with a 14-day trial and no card. There is no package to start from and no annual commitment.

What switching involves

Set a redemption deadline for outstanding points and remind people twice. Export the reporting you want to keep. Map your award reasons to Evergreen value tags, install Evergreen in the channels where your team talks, and let the weekly reminder and monthly recap take over. Service awards do not have an Evergreen equivalent; if anniversaries matter to you, keep a simple process for them alongside.

Where Awardco is strong

  • A partnership with Amazon Business gives points access to millions of items in 180+ locations, with no markups and free shipping stated on the site, and no personal Amazon account needed.

  • The marketplace also covers gift cards, charity donations, travel and experiences, a company swag store and an A-Pay payment card.

  • Slack and Microsoft Teams apps let people recognise peers and award points in channels, and the platform embeds in Outlook and 365.

  • A long list of named HRIS integrations including Workday, BambooHR, Rippling, Gusto, ADP, UKG, Paylocity and SAP SuccessFactors, with SAML SSO and an open API.

  • Service awards, nominations, automated milestones, AwardCodes for offline staff and a lifestyle spending account are all in the same platform.

Where it falls short

  • No published per-seat price; the only figure on the pricing page is a small-business package starting at $3,000, on an annual subscription.

  • Plans are gated by the number of programme types, with more types and premium add-ons available for an additional fee.

  • Points management and expiration is a platform feature, so unspent points are a liability somebody has to manage.

  • Amazon items and gift cards are a taxable benefit, which is why the platform includes a tax buffer and tax content.

How Evergreen differs

No packages, no minimum

Evergreen is $3.99 per active user per month, cancel any time, with a 14-day trial and no card. A ten-person team pays for ten.

Nothing to spend

Every three seeds a person receives are planted as one real tree. There are no points to expire, no catalogue to browse and no taxable benefit.

Chat is the product

Seeds are given in Slack or Microsoft Teams and posted to a public channel with the message and value tags. The web is for reporting, monthly recaps and the public impact page.

Values are tagged and reported

Each seed can carry company value tags and the dashboard shows which values are recognised and how often.

Verdict

If the appeal of recognition in your company is that people can buy something real with it, Awardco has the strongest catalogue story in the category and a serious integration list to go with it. If you would rather recognition stayed a public message in the channel, with nothing to redeem, no minimum spend and a tree planted for every three seeds, Evergreen is the cheaper and simpler choice.

Questions people ask

What is the minimum cost of Awardco?

The Awardco pricing page does not list per-seat prices. It points startups and companies with 100 employees or fewer to sales for packages starting at $3,000, and describes an annual subscription. Evergreen has no minimum: $3.99 per active user per month.

Are Awardco rewards really without markup?

The Awardco site says there are no markups on Amazon Business rewards and free shipping, and adds in its FAQ that shipping, sales tax, customs and country charges can still affect the final transaction and that the Amazon Business catalogue differs from the consumer one. Evergreen has no rewards transactions at all.

Does Awardco integrate with Slack and Teams the way Evergreen does?

Awardco has apps for Slack and Microsoft Teams that let people recognise colleagues and award points in channels, with redemption in the Awardco marketplace. Evergreen has no redemption step, so the channel post with its message and value tags is the entire experience.
