What Motivosity is

Motivosity is a recognition and engagement platform whose distinguishing feature is that the money is real. An appreciation can carry dollars, which the recipient spends through Amazon inside the app, on gift cards, through PayPal or Venmo, on charity, or with a ThanksMatters Visa card. Managers can hold spot-bonus budgets, there are nominations and achievement awards, wellness challenges, milestone automation and eNPS surveys, and the whole thing is wrapped in a social feed with profiles and an org chart. It covers 238 countries and territories in 70+ languages.

Pricing is custom. The pricing page describes a platform fee of roughly $0 to $2 per employee per month, modules from around $1 per employee per month, volume discounts, and a $3,000 annual minimum for small business plans. Small businesses of 20 to 250 people are told to expect $3,000 to $10,000 a year for two modules. Motivosity says it never marks up rewards.

Who it suits

A company that has decided recognition should carry cash, that has 75 or more people, and that wants an implementation team to set it up. The Visa card in particular is a commitment: it turns the programme into a financial benefit, with the payroll and tax handling that implies, and it is very visible to employees. If your competitors for talent pay bonuses, this is a way to match them in small, frequent amounts.

How the two products approach recognition

Evergreen does not move money. A colleague gives a seed in Slack or Microsoft Teams with a message and optional value tags, and it is posted to a public channel. Every three seeds a person receives are planted as one real tree through a reforestation partner. The recipient gets a public thank-you and a tree; the company gets a dashboard, a monthly recap and a public impact page to show what the programme did.

This is a narrower product and a cheaper one. There is no rewards budget, so the only cost is $3.99 per active user per month, billed only for people who interacted that month, with no minimum, no contract and a 14-day trial that needs no card. There is also no Visa card, no Amazon and no spot bonus, and if those are the point of your programme, Evergreen will feel thin.

Where the two agree is on values. Both let you attach a company value to a piece of recognition and report on it. Evergreen makes the tags central and the company values pages describe what to write for each one; Motivosity adds value-based awards and badges on top.

What switching involves

Money left in Motivosity accounts has to be spent or settled before the contract ends, so give people a deadline and a reminder. Export the reports you want, map your values to Evergreen tags, and install Evergreen in the channel where Motivosity highlights used to appear. Managers who held spot budgets lose that tool; what replaces it is a weekly seed allowance for everyone and the expectation that thanks are said in public.

Where Motivosity is strong

  • Rewards are real dollars or points, spendable through Amazon, gift cards, PayPal or Venmo, charity, a ThanksMatters Visa card or a branded store, with no markup on rewards.

  • Recognition connects to company values, with value-based awards and badges.

  • Coverage of 238 countries and territories and 70+ languages, with local gift cards.

  • Spot bonuses, nominations, wellness challenges, milestone automation and eNPS surveys sit alongside recognition as modules.

  • A guided implementation and dedicated success manager come with the contract.

Where it falls short

  • Pricing is custom and starts at a $3,000 annual minimum, on an annual contract, which rules out trying it small.

  • The platform fee is only part of the cost; modules are priced separately and the rewards budget is the largest line.

  • The Slack and Teams integrations post appreciations and highlights into a channel; giving and redeeming happen in the Motivosity app.

  • Cash-equivalent rewards through a Visa card or PayPal are a taxable benefit and need payroll handling.

How Evergreen differs

No minimum and no contract

Evergreen is $3.99 per active user per month, cancel any time, with a 14-day trial and no card. Five people can pay for five.

A tree rather than a dollar

Every three seeds a person receives become one planted tree. Nothing is spent, so there is no rewards budget, no Visa card programme and no taxable benefit.

Giving happens in chat

Seeds are given in Slack or Microsoft Teams and posted to a public channel with the message and value tags. There is no second app to open to say thank you.

Only the people who take part are billed

An active user is somebody who interacted with Evergreen that month. Motivosity quotes per employee.

Verdict

If your recognition programme is meant to move money to employees, with managers holding spot-bonus budgets and a Visa card in every wallet, Motivosity is a serious platform for it and its no-markup stance is worth taking at face value. If you want recognition to be a public message in the channel your team already reads, at a price you can read too, and would rather plant a tree than fund a card, Evergreen is the better fit.
