Many benefits come with having engaged employees such as commitment, productivity, and satisfaction, which leads to better business outcomes. Also, as you might know, when having disengaged employees, hurts the company's culture, productivity, and overall success. But how do we know if the employees are engaged or not?  Is there any easy thing we should do, to understand who is engaged or not?

Here is a test to help you identify whether your employees are engaged in their work and with your company.

This employee engagement test consists of ten statements that cover different aspects of employee engagement, so you can analyze which aspect might be needed to improve.  We suggest giving this template to your employees and asking them to read each statement carefully and select the option that best represents how they feel about their job and the company they work for. For this, you can give them time and try to make it anonymous, so this gives confidence to them to actually share their feelings.

These 10 questions will help you to understand your team. The answers are scored on a five-point scale, with five being the highest score and one being the lowest.

Disclaimer: Is important to let them know why you are doing this test, remember the clearer it is, the better. We don’t want to create anxiety in the employees about them losing their jobs, especially with all the layoffs around.

Scoring:

Add up the number of points for each answer as follows:

Employees will receive five points for a "strongly agree" response, four points for an "agree" response, three points for a "neutral" response, two points for a "disagree" response, and one point for a "strongly disagree" response. The total score is calculated by adding up the points for each answer, and the score is then used to interpret the level of employee engagement.

  • Strongly agree: 5 points
  • Agree: 4 points
  • Neutral: 3 points
  • Disagree: 2 points
  • Strongly disagree: 1 point

Interpretation

Once you receive the results, you will need to interpret the results about employee engagement. It is important to keep in mind that employee engagement is a complex concept and cannot be fully captured by a simple numerical score. Rather, these scores should be viewed as a starting point for further analysis and exploration.

  • 40-50 points: Highly engaged
  • 30-39 points: Moderately engaged
  • 20-29 points: Somewhat disengaged
  • 10-19 points: Highly disengaged

To gain a more nuanced understanding of the results, it may be helpful to consider additional factors such as employee demographics, job satisfaction, and workplace culture. For example, if a large number of highly engaged employees are concentrated in a particular department, it may be worth investigating the management practices and team dynamics that contribute to this success. Conversely, if many employees are highly disengaged, it may be necessary to explore potential organizational issues such as inadequate communication, lack of opportunities for growth and development, or insufficient recognition and rewards.

Also, it is important to consider that the categories of "highly engaged," "moderately engaged," "somewhat disengaged," and "highly disengaged" are not fixedor immutable. Rather, they represent general trends and can vary depending on several contextual factors. For instance, a score of 30-39 points may be considered moderately engaged in one organization or department, but highly disengaged in another. As such, it is crucial to take a holistic approach to interpreting these results and to avoid making overly hasty or simplistic conclusions.
